vegetables

allotments and recipies

Veg Out, the first TV series dedicated to the allotment, features the dedicated vegetable grower and their produce. Green-grocers by trade, Gregg Wallace and Charlie Hicks, take their own brand of humour and expertise to visit allotments to find out how to grow veg, from the familiar carrots and potatoes, to exotic peppers and aubergines.

Gregg and Charlie know their veg, and tell the best chefs what varieties of a particular veg to use and can suggest recipes and cooking methods.

But they are green-grocers, not gardeners, so to find out the tricks of the trade they travel to different allotment sites in five of our major cities across Britain, visiting each in turn during spring, summer and autumn.

In Veg Out Gregg and Charlie join people on their allotments, learning how it's done. They join in with the gardeners as they dig and sow, plant and weed and they are there at those crucial moments when all is revealed and the year's crops are harvested.

The inspiration to every gardener is the moment they see the result of their labour. As fresh veg are the best, so Charlie and Gregg cook up a recipe with the gardeners, so they can taste the veg within minutes of it being dug up or cut.
