Two men ... to catch

Freshwater Fish

The impressive number of freshwater fish species targeted for the Rod Race includes some unusual varieties. Says Mick: "There were a few species we did not tackle for practical or conservation reasons.

Vendace and Powan, for example, are protected species and we obviously did not want to break the law but we did target Arctic Char - probably the rarest species on the list. We also excluded Silver Bream and Bitterling, simply because they are not easily identified nor is their whereabouts easy to pinpoint."

Here's the daunting list of fish species and sub-species which the lads need to catch within 30 days. The TV series captures the fun-filled moments of triumph as well as the heartbreaking disappointments of the ones that got away.
