Cargo Carrying

The G.U.C.C. Co. fleet moved cargo from ships in London. They often carried iron, steel, coal, from
London to the Midlands. ‘Dover’ was based at Bulls Bridge, London. Dover carried cargo such as: spelter
(metal carried in bars), 50 tonnes of dates, concrete sections, and copper (48.5 tonnes).
Even today, carrying by
narrow boat still exists. There is considerable tonnage carried in wide beam craft on the bigger waterways. Also,
most of the narrow boat carrying is out of house coal – sold along the waterways. Potteries used to use canals
for carrying through the 1970s and 1980s and today, the canals are used to carry waste on the Thames. |
