SuperTruck :: FactFile

This LDV Convoy flatbed truck is heavily customised. So much work has gone into making this special that the original basis - a front-engined flat-bed lorry, 18ft./5.5 metres long - has almost been hidden from sight. This sturdy, separate chassis, working machine has a diesel engine, firm half-elliptic front and rear suspension, front-wheel disc brakes and power-assisted steering. It is simple, and ideal for its purpose.

Originally white, it has been transformed with a psychedelic cloud effect. The specially designed artwork was captured within a computer, which then transferred the images on to self-adhesive vinyl, which was then fixed to the curves of the truck itself.

At the front, the truck got a macho image, with two exhaust stack pipes, a row of fog lamps, and twin air horns. The sides were lowered with fibreglass skirts. Behind the cab there is a roll bar, and a box containing the power winch and wiring for the loudspeaker equipment.

Inside the cab there is a Sony XVM-R75 ceiling monitor, a Sony Psone Playstation, a Sony DVX-100 CD 10 disc auto changer, an XA-300 switcher box to control all the functions in the cabin, a combined Satellite Navigation and CD player installation, with many Hi-Fi speakers to match all this equipment. At the same time, Marine Speakers have also been fitted to the rear winch box, which are resistant to salt spray at the seaside.

A JS02 launch trolley was adapted for carrying a Yamaha Superjet 700 jet ski in the back of the customised truck. This has a 73bhp/701cc two-stroke engine - which makes it pretty nippy on the waterways.

The ensemble is a rugged, reliable customised leisure truck with sturdy aluminium chequer plate covering the bed..
